Nancy Wright Butler

Nancy Butler is best known for her textured and colorful paintings.  Although she occasionally dabbles in loose realism, her energetic and visceral canvases are her calling card.  This Georgia based artist has been painting for over 20 years and has a BFA from The University of Georgia and an MFA in Painting from The Savannah College of Art and Design.  Nancy enjoys many media, but her love of oil and its properties remain the favorite.  Her use of color can be both interesting and surprising.  Even though her subject matter may vary, it is the transient nature of light and shadow that most captures her attention.  The work possesses a sense of place and time that often evokes relatable and familiar memories.

Nancy has exhibited in U.S. cities such as Atlanta, Los Angeles, New York and Chicago as well as internationally in places as far away as Tel Aviv and Amsterdam.  She was also named one of Sotheby’s International Young Artists just out of college and interned with feminist artist Judy Chicago.  Her longstanding interest in women’s issues continue to emerge alongside her evolving faith in Jesus.
